September 9, 2016 (FAIRBANKS, Alaska) – The Fairbanks International Airport is conducting live-fire training Friday, September 9th, Wednesday, September 14th, and Thursday, September 22nd in accordance with FAA requirements under FAR 139.319 and State of Alaska Firefighter training requirements. The live-fires will commence at approximately 1 p.m. September 9th, 10 a.m. September 14th, and at noon September 22nd. Large columns of black smoke may be observed rising from the fire training area on the south side of the airport during the live-fire training. Area emergency services agencies will be notified prior to commencing the training and upon training cessation. The Alaska Department of Transportation and Public Facilities oversees 249 airports, 11 ferries serving 35 communities, 5,619 miles of highway and 720 public facilities throughout the state of Alaska. The mission of the department is to Keep Alaska Moving through service and infrastructure.
